IMV Films: Rise of The Autocross

So I don't really know what the name of the next IMV films video is but I have heard several rumors from Sav, Jimmy, Jeff (not previously seen in the movies) and others that another movie is pretty far in the works. Sav has been busy getting new footage of the Vehicular Lunatics in and around Gainesville. The early footage (a few years ago) is comprised of motorcycles and some pretty impressive cars that Sav and Company have run into and been asked to film. The footage as of late has largely been comprised of Rally footage and a lot of autocross. The police activity has certainly been avoided at all costs and has certainly made filmimg much harder. The group is a much tighter group since ASO/GPD crackdowns have certainly thinned the droves of people who just wanted to get in a movie.

Here is a clip from some of their older footage that may or may not make it into the next video.

Alex Sotos EG Hatch

The entire car was stripped down to a bare chassis and it was repainted from the inside out. Every nut and bolt that could be removed was removed for the fresh respray. The EG was taken over to Evans Auto Body where it was resprayed a Jade Sea metallic, a finish seen off the Toyota Yaris. The car was overhauled through every panel on the exterior, restoring the car back to stock form. The interior received the same treatment, receiving an entire repaint.

Once the car was back from the body shop, it was stored in the garage as all the components and parts were ordered up so that his project could be built to his standards. Once everything was gathered and ready to go, the project started going together. The front bumper was fitted with an authentic Mugen front spoiler that was match painted. Subtle accessories include a set of Vision corner lights, JDM headlights, taillights and rear wing. A set of Honda window visors and an antenna block off plate. Spoon Sports mirrors could be seen adding to the sporty appeal of the EG.

Now for the real goodies: the engine bay. The bottom end starts with a B20B CR-V block that received a full treatment from RS Machine. Their sleeves have made their way into the cylinders along with 85mm 12.1:1 compression pistons and Crower ultra light “I” beam rods on a 92mm crankshaft. The stock oil and water pump were replaced with Type-R pieces during the process of the rebuild. The head starts with a B16, making this motor the infamous B20 VTEC transformation. Tom at Portflow Cylinder Heads overhauled the head with their trademark port, polish and three-angle valve job. New valve springs, retainers and stainless steel valves were part of the rebuild along with ARP head studs and a custom set of Web camshafts.

Whitfield then had their hands involved with the motor build with the installation of TWM 50mm individual throttle bodies and their big tube “Y” tri header with 2.5-inch stainless steel piping. The exhaust has been kept discreet with an ES oval muffler. Additional fuel has been added to the entire setup through 440cc RC injectors, an Aeromotive fuel filter and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump. The entire setup is retuned thanks to a Hondata S300 in a P28 ECU. Getting all the power to the ground is a 2000 GS-R transmission equipped with an ATS 4.9 final drive, Quaife limited slip differential and Omni Power titanium axles.

The interior received a fair amount of upgrades with a Mugen S1 seat on the driver side and a USDM Type-R seat on the passenger side. The rear seats were also swapped out for JDM Type-R pieces, a Nardi 350mm steering wheel and Spoon Sports shift knob. A JDM SiR gauge cluster, center console and climate control make up the rest of the interior modifications.

Omni Power’s catalog of goods can be seen bolted into this car. Full dampening coilovers along with their rear lower control arms, front lower control arms and front and rear camber kits give fine tune and dial in suspension for any task at hand. The wheels we see are a set of BBR Competition wheels wrapped with Dunlop rubber.

Stepping back and admiring the car’s exterior can only do so much. This engine bay is immaculate, and each and every component serves a purpose and function.

5 Axis Rsx

5 Axis puts out some amazing products this RSX-S is no exception to that rule. This car has several subtle design features that make for an aggressive and stunning car. The first thing that can be noticed is the 5 Axis designed rims the X5:F in Gunmetal which looks amazing with the charcoal color of the RSX. The next design feature is the custom aero package from 5 Axis, which is a widebody kit that is very aggressive in its lines, a little lower stance would make this thing look amazing. There are of course HIDs to top off the look of this car

On the inside 5 axis did not slouch either wrapping the interior in suede and carbon fiber removing many things like the radio bezel and feature buttons while maintaining the comfort of A/C. The only thing I wish they would have done would be to use a short shifter because the shifter looks largely out of place.

2 Tone 350Z

A two tone paint job, Carbon Fiber Hood, CWest Bumper and some nice fitment really set this 350 Z out from the crowd.

Plaid

So I know what your thinking... Plaid?!?!? really... yes this is by far one of the more unique engine bays I have seen, yah a lot of guys put Carbon Fiber all over the engine compartment this guy chose plaid and i must say it looks awesome, i wish the bay were a little cleaner and this might really make a more dramatic statement

Supra!

The car is a Toyota Supra fitted with very rare and wild Abflug aero, giving the car an extremely aggressive appearance due to the exaggerated lines and widened fenders. The car sits on a set of massive HRE wheels.

The motor is a 2JZGTE outfitted with quite a few HKS parts - HKS parts are purple. The bay was painted a matching purple, as well. All the piping was done by PowerFab. The purple carbon fiber pieces were done by Dip-Tech.

Vinyl Wrapped Rims

So I'm not sure if this will catch on or not but it seems to be a very interesting idea if done right. Most people that daily drive a car aren't into big body vinyls but it seems to be a viable option to look into rim vinyls. Essentially a very boring rim could be given a very intricate pattern that is very unique, especially in a scene where many rims are beginning to all look about the same

What Not To Do

Here is when tuning go seriously awry... I see what they might have been going for but the failed miseably and now we get to see the results.

Black paint does not constitiute a carbon fiber hood, your eyelids should match your hood or at least go with your body line or something and the sticker lip well it just makes an already busy car worse.

Pink isn't bad in moderation but when you just start painting parts that aren't body fenders pink cause you can you make the car look cheap... color is good when done tastefully and in moderation.

Bad attempt at urban camo or something I'm really not sure but what I am sure of is it looks disgusting... and if this is an attempt at graffiti you missed the mark.

This might have been cool way back when lots and lots of overdone graphics were in... wait no... it just looks like someone took one of those 8 packs of crayons and made a design on your car... tribal art in bright colors... NO
